Lilly UK Social Media Policy

Lilly UK recognises that social media is a very valuable resource that helps us connect with people who are interested in our business online. However, please understand that Lilly UK exists within a heavily regulated industry and therefore there are certain topics that we cannot discuss on our social media channels; including discussions about our products or those of other companies, the provision of medical advice or discussions on health related topics, treatment options or topics of a sensitive nature. As a result, we would like to draw your attention to the Lilly UK Social Media Policy (the “Policy”) and ask that you adhere to these terms and conditions to ensure that everyone gets the most out of the social media community and that discussions which take place on Lilly UK’s social media channels are constructive, respectful, of high quality and stay within the topics we are able to engage within.

Lilly UK Social Media Channels

Social Media formats evolve constantly and include online technologies and applications used for sharing opinions, videos, photos and news. Examples include content posting; file sharing; social networking; tagging and social bookmarks. Lilly UK currently has the following social media channels to which this Policy applies. Lilly UK reserves the right to add additional social media channels to the list as and when necessary.

  • LinkedIn -  Lilly UK’s LinkedIn page shares career opportunities, information on working at Lilly and related information about our business

  • Twitter - Lilly has a number of global and regional twitter accounts. In the UK, @LillyRheum is designed to share information with the Professional Rheumatology Community

Reporting of medical adverse events and product complaints

Please do not use our social media channels to report side effects or complaints about a Lilly product. If you experience side effects talk to your doctor or other healthcare professional. This includes any possible side effects not listed in the package leaflet. To report any side effects from, or complaints about, your medication, please contact your healthcare provider or the manufacturer, Lilly UK, by calling 01256 315 000 (UK). You can also report side effects at (UK). By reporting side effects you can help provide more information on the safety of medicines. 


Communications, Content and Comments on Lilly UK Social Media Channels

  • All communications and content Lilly UK generates on its social media channels is provided as is and Lilly UK does not guarantee its accuracy, reliability, completeness, suitability or timeliness.

  • Lilly does not commit to responding to communications via its social media channels.

  • Any communications, drawings, concepts or other information you share with us via our social media channels are given free of charge and deemed non-confidential. Lilly UK has no obligations of any kind in respect of the shared information which you confirm it can freely reproduce, use, disclose or distribute to others without limitation (other than those established under data protection legislation) for any purpose we deem appropriate without requiring your consent or to pay any compensation to you.

  • Lilly may, at any time and at its sole discretion monitor and review any communications or content to help improve the quality of its interactions with you and the services it offers.

  • If Lilly UK receives social media comments or communications falling within any of the following it reserves the right to filter, delay or, in some cases, prevent publication or delete the communication:

Unrelated to the subject at issue;

Violates a third party’s intellectual property rights;

Contains personal information, e.g. names of individuals, email address or phone number;

Contain confidential, proprietary or sensitive information;

Offer medical advice;

Discuss adverse events or product complaints;

Relate to a medicinal product or discuss off-label use;

Include profanity, offensive, defamatory, libellous, unsuitable, untrue, inflammatory, discriminatory, demeaning or derogatory content (including images, videos and links);

Contain threatening language, condone violence or illegal behaviour;

Information pertaining to ongoing legal disputes;

Discuss commercial topics, e.g. selling products or services;

Excessively repetitive or disruptive to the social media community or are spam;

Do not follow the Terms of Use/Terms and Conditions of the relevant social media channel, e.g., Twitter.

Please remember that any discussion on health related topics on Lilly UK social media channels should not be relied upon and is in no way intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice if you have any questions regarding a medical condition or your health.


Your Personal Information

  • Unless we specifically ask you to do so, we do not want to receive any personal information from you so please do not share it with us. Any personal information that we expressly ask you for will be treated in accordance with our Privacy Policy which can be found here:  Please read this policy through carefully before providing any such requested personal information.
  • We do not aim to store or use your social media handle or profile information, email or other personal details except in the case of an adverse event or product complaint.

  • Please note that we are using third party service providers to help us manage your communications, comments and messages, which means that they too have access to any personal information you share with us. Such third parties are contractually bound to ensure adequate protection of personal information.

Lilly UK Responsibilities and Liabilities

  • In no event shall Lilly UK or its affiliates or any third party mentioned on our social media channels or associated communications be liable for any damages (including without limitation incidental and consequential damages, loss of profits or damages resulting from lost data or business interruption) resulting from your use of or interaction with our social media channels, the content thereon or any failure of performance, error, delay, virus, omission or loss of data or use related to such social media channels or any website operated by a third party.

  • Discontinuing use of our social media channels is your sole and exclusive remedy.

Third party sites

  • Whilst Lilly may have social media accounts and profiles on third party social media sites such as Linked In and Twitter, Lilly UK does not own the third party social media sites or any other third party sites that are accessed through links or references in communications, content or information shared by us. When you click on such a link to a third party site, you are moving to a new site. We are therefore not responsible for these third party sites, their content or accuracy, reliability or suitability, their terms and conditions, privacy statements, policies and practices or for any problems you face in using these sites or due to an inability to access them or our accounts and profiles or due to viruses or other harmful components. Furthermore, we do not endorse their products, services or content.

  • You use the third party sites at your own risk and subject to their terms and conditions and you need to refer to the site directly with any problems you may have.

  • Third party social media sites, channels or accounts that Lilly UK follows or is followed by are not an indication of Lilly UK’s endorsement of these sites, channels, accounts or content they produce.

Third party content and communications

  • Lilly UK is neither legally responsible for content posted by third parties or altered by other users nor can it guarantee the accuracy, reliability, completeness, suitability or timeliness of such content. Third party content and comments posted on Lilly UK social media channels do not necessarily reflect the views of Lilly UK and by allowing such third party content to be published on the Lilly UK social media channels Lilly UK cannot be deemed to be providing endorsement or approval. All third parties are solely responsible for the information they share on the Lilly UK social media channels.


Intellectual Property

  • All proprietary materials, information or content Lilly UK places on its social media channels is copyrighted and owned by Lilly UK or Lilly UK has the right to use it and our rights are reserved. Whilst the sharing of social media content is permitted, unless expressly stated to the contrary, you must not copy, download, transfer, modify or otherwise use or exploit any such content on the social media channels in any way, without our prior consent.  Unless otherwise indicated, all trade mark, company names, logos and designs used in our content are the intellectual property of Lilly and any use by you of them is strictly prohibited.



  • Lilly UK social media channels are intended for the exclusive use of residents of the UK over the age of 18 only. Any non-English language content will therefore be removed.

  • By interacting with us on our social media channels, you are agreeing to comply with the terms of this Policy. Any failure to comply could result in the suspension, termination or change of conditions of your access at any time without notice which could result in you being removed or blocked from all Lilly UK social media channels and access to associated content and communications.

  • We reserve the right to change or remove all or part of our social media channels, profiles or content at any time.

  • This Policy is governed by English law and you agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts for any dispute with Lilly or in any way related to your use of the Lilly UK social media channels and their content.  If you interact with us from outside the UK, you do so at your own risk and are responsible for compliance with the laws in your jurisdiction.
