For 140 years, we have worked tirelessly to discover medicines that make life better. From the development of insulin to the manufacturing of the polio vaccine to the discovery of medicines that treat mental illness, we have been pioneers behind breakthroughs against some of humanity’s most stubborn and devastating diseases.
Today, we largely concentrate in therapeutic areas in which we have deep expertise, including diabetes, neurodegeneration and Alzheimer's disease, and oncology, alongside research in therapy areas that build on that expertise and our knowledge of chronic conditions, such as pain and immunology. We seek to develop pharmaceuticals that are "first-in-class", ie creating a treatment where none existed and/or "best-in-class" and improve on existing treatments.
